An essay can have many purposes, from exposing your own point of view to explaining the steps necessary to complete a task, but the basic structure will always be the same. However, writing in Spanish is not the same as doing it in English, so many students who use Anglo-Saxon as a second language often make mistakes and feel frustration when receiving bad grades.

Do not care anymore! If you follow these simple steps, you will see that the essay is practically written alone. All you need is to come up with ideas, which are the most important part of the whole thing. Do not let the fact of taking a pencil and paper overtake you!

1. Theme
You may not have the option to choose the theme. If that is the case, analyze what you are being asked to produce: A general summary or a specific analysis. For example, “Kenya” is a broad topic, and if the goal is to write your vision about that region, the task is simple because you can make the decision to talk about “Politics in Kenya” or “Kenyan Culture”.
On the contrary, if you have the freedom to choose the content of the writing, you have the world at your feet. Selecting something that interests you and knows you well, will allow you to write a solid essay.

2. Purpose
The first thing to think about is the purpose of what you are going to write. Do you want to persuade people to think like you, explain the methodology to perform a certain task, provide information about a person, place, thing or idea? Write some interesting topics and evaluate which one fits your essay. The most important factor is the amount of ideas that arise with that subject.

3. Ideas
Develop a diagram or diagram that includes all the ideas, in a moderately organized format. The structure may change before finishing the job, so do not stress yourself yet.
Begin by writing the topic at the top of the page. Then list the ideas on the left side; And next to each of them, places the main points that you want to highlight. If your intention is to persuade, write your best arguments; If you are going to explain a process, write meticulously the steps to follow; If you want to inform, write the categories in which you are going to classify said data. You can group the information using the terms “Start”, “Half” and “End”. When finished, you will have the basic structure of the essay.

4. Statement of Thesis
Once you have decided, at least tentatively, what type of information you are going to present in the essay, you are ready to write the thesis statement. It is about telling the reader what the subject is to address and your position, as the author, on the subject. The data must be supplied in two plates, that is, in a first part that includes the subject and a second one that talks about the point of view of the text (here you can list the three main ideas previously considered).

5. Drafting of paragraphs
In the body of the essay, all the previous preparation sees its fruits. The chosen topic should now be explained, described or argued. Each main idea noted in the diagram will become a body paragraph. If you have three or four main ideas, you will have three or four paragraphs of the body that must have the same basic structure: A main idea in the form of a prayer, supporting comments for that idea along with a description, explanation or discussion; according to the case.

6. Introduction and Conclusion
Up to this point, you only have to write two more paragraphs: Introduction and Conclusion. Through them you will give the reader an entry point to the essay and an exit point. The first one is designed to attract attention and give an idea about the focus of the thesis, using a short anecdote or true and verifiable information that culminates with the thesis statement; While the second is a summary of the text that closes with a final perspective on the subject. Three or four solid sentences are enough.

7. Final Touch
You finished all the paragraphs of the essay! Before considering it a finished product, it is necessary to take a last look at it thoroughly to correct any errors of wording, content, margins, title, etc.
